July 31, 2009

Other than the past 2-3 hot and humid days, the summer has been very wet and cool here in the Boston area. I am wondering how I will stand the heat of the desert which I hear has been "brutal". I have lots of sunscreen, protective clothing, a backpack with a 3 liter water supply, and a hat. I am left wondering:
  1. How can people stand to wear so much in the heat?
  2. Will there even be any caterpillars to count, raise and test?
  3. How do they stand the heat?
  4. I mean ...What adaptations do they have to withstand this abiotic factor (the heat)? .. Behavioral adaptations? Physical adaptations? A bit of both? Any guesses? Be specific!
Please feel free to predict, guess, hypothesize, or just comment. I'd love to hear from you!
